Chedi of Wat Prayun Wongsawat

    The people used to travel for shopping around “Memorial Bridge” (Phra Phuttha Yodfa Bridge) or “Pak Khlong Talat”. If you look one side of “Chao Phraya River”, you will see the white Chedis of wat prayun wongsawat Bangkok outstanding. In the last year, the Chedis of wat prayun wongsawat received nominations for the Unesco Award. And it got the first prize of building major in the Geography of Asia and the Pacific. 

   
     Wat Prayun Wongsawat is located near Memorial Bridge which spans the Chao Phaya in Bangkok. It was built by Somdet Chao Phraya Borom Maha Prayurawongse (Tish Bunnag) in 1828 A.D for the king Rama III. Afterwards Chedis was built and finished in the king Rama IV. 

   

     The architecture highlight of Wat Prayun Wongsawat was Chedis figure. It was the sphere high 60.525 meters including wooden timber framing supporting the chedi from folk wisdom. It is very rare and not easy to see.

    Wat Prayun Wongsawat is seldom visited by non-Thais. In fact I’ve never seen a tourist on my own visits here. Perhaps it is because it is not that easy to get to and well Bangkok has so many glorious and spectacular temples. I do like this one though for its peaceful atmosphere, its simplicity and dazzling white stucco facade. A wonderful part of the Bangkok skyline.
